Hi Titanfall fans! Welcome to the blog post from Respawn Entertainment and Gravity Well about Titanfall 3!
We apologize for not posting blog posts for a while because we being busy with other stuffs.
Collaboration with Threat Interactive for actual optimization[]
We have said before that switching from modified Source engine we develop for Titanfall games and Apex Legends to UE5 raises concerns for game performance and optimization (or lack thereof).
We worked closely with him to optimize and even modify the Unreal Engine 5 ourselves so that photo-realistic graphics of this Titanfall game no longer needs upscaling and even TAA (which known to cause ghosting artifacts) and improve performance across the board in order to try avoiding being labeled as another "Unreal Slop 5" and/or "Stutter Engine 5" title. You can check out his channel for more valuable lessons we use for Titanfall 3 development.
Stop Killing Games[]
We have heard about Stop Killing Games initiative for European citizens to make publishers and even developers reconsider to not do planned obsolescence and so, Titanfall 3 do not have any DRM (which are counter-productive anyway) at all. And also, we already made decisions to make all Special Ops missions as well as PvP/PvE multiplayer modes playable offline with AI bots even before this initiative was started.
Rest assured, we do not shut servers for Titanfall 1 (a multiplayer-only game) down even if we don't have any plans to bring Titanfall 1 back to storefronts to purchase from.
Namedropping other games is counterproductive[]
We learned that namedropping other games on stage or even in-game can be harmful as it only insults Titanfall fans especially when done poorly.
While Titanfall 3 (especially on the campaign mode) have a lot of references to other games and other forms of media, these doesn't explicitly tell anyone about other games both in-game and in trailers.
Saudi Arabia acquisition of EA and its potential impact on Titanfall franchise[]
We seen these news about the parent company Electronic Arts being acquired by Saudi Arabian companies before and so, we expect that it will inevitably affect Titanfall franchise down the line.
One upside of this acquisition is that EA will go private, which should make more room for creativity on future Titanfall games (including campaign DLCs and expansion packs for Titanfall 3) and an another one is a restraint from introducing more unnecessary woke stuffs into it. However, there are downsides (e.g. but not limited to more layoffs to ostensibly increase profitability and replace human employees with generative AI tools), which unfortunately would likely to outweigh the benefits of the biggest acquisition ever.
Stranded on the alternate dimension? Probably not[]
Ever since Death Stranding 2: On the Beach have been released on 26 June 2025 (or 24th June on the early access), there are some stuffs in Titanfall 3 campaign (released on 11 March 2024 as a 10th anniversary of our first Titanfall game back in 2014) that are probably predating Death Stranding 2 stuffs (e.g. the mechanized Arktanian enemies in Titanfall 3 campaign predates Ghost Mechs in DS2: OtB, the Electrified Javelins predates the electric rod as Sam usable melee weapon), much like the omnimovement thing in Titanfall 3 predates the Call of Duty: Black Ops 6's.
On that note, the original Death Stranding inspired certain stuffs especially in the campaign portion of Titanfall 3 like the ability to grab and throw small objects just like Death Stranding's cargo, a chemical-dispersing grenade that acts like hematic grenade's ability to coat bullets with anti-BT properties but applies to all enemy types (and increases damage on coated targets instead in its Titanfall equivalent), and of course, these giant bacterial entity bosses on an alternate dimension mission inspired by catcher BT boss fights but without a catastrophic explosion that comes with eating a living being. Also, the MULEs from the first game (and also the second game with a "backpack thief" as a character) inspired some the designs of the clothing used by some human enemies (especially the FMITO opportunists and low-tech IMC subfactions and other weaker paramilitary factions) in Titanfall universe, especially the rain and cold weather clothing and masks worn by certain enemy Grunts and Pilots alike regardless of the faction.
Weird stuffs in BO7 vs. Titanfall 3 campaigns[]
We've seen the Skibidi Toilet-esque boss fight with giant Harper, some Resident Evil moment (especially Woods turning into a plant monster), the return of atrocious Open Combat Missions from MWIII and other nonsense on this latest Call of Duty co-op campaign in-addition to disrespecting the legacy of Black Ops 2 through nostalgia baiting. On top of that, BO7 campaign is online-only; you can't pause even if you're playing solo, you can even be kicked out of the campaign for inactivity, connectivity issues with either the internet connection or the server can affect the campaign and on top of that, there are no AI teammates to help when playing solo in this campaign.
Thankfully, these weird stuffs we see in what the abomination Black Ops 7's campaign is, are mostly confined to An Outworldly Dimension mission in our Titanfall 3's campaign though we're not Hideo Kojima nor his Death Stranding's weirdness and these strange stuffs (e.g. bacterial entities, zero-gravity and abnormal gravity environment, and non-Euclidean liminal spaces) in this TF|3 campaign mission aren't hallucinations like in CoD: BO7 but rather, these are anomalous phenomena within the alternate dimension. In-addition, all Special Ops missions in Titanfall 3 are playable offline and solo with AI teammates, character switch mechanic and repurposed Apex Legends' ping system being present on these missions that normally require two or more players to play.
We're also heard reports like this one surfacing about Ro Khanna (who are a congressman of the US government) condemning the egregious use of generative AI on BO7 as a whole (not just the atrocious co-op campaign and especially with calling cards) with the irony is that the campaign story of BO7 have a deepfake of Raul Menendez from BO2 involved in the events of the aforementioned campaign. What's more is that these AI Slop garbage are also present in previous game Black Ops 6 like the infamous six-fingered santa zombie in a loading screen image, though it was a post-launch content as opposed to BO7's more in-your-face inclusion of generative AI slop garbage on launch. While we're not a luddite, we condemned such generative AI misuse and so we already have strict rules on generative AI use to ensure that artists and devs at Respawn and Gravity Well doesn't get replaced by AI Slop machines, instead being augmented by AI tools when needed.
Highguard, more like Concord 2? And also about TGA 2025[]
When Geoff Keighley (the host of The Game Awards 2025) announced Highguard from Wildlight Entertainment as a last new game in TGA 2025, people are thinking about Titanfall 3 when they hear "from the makers of Apex Legends and Titanfall" on the trailer. But nope, this is just an another Concord-like FPS game we wish never see in the light and that tagline on this trailer is just namedropping Titanfall like in Splitgate 2 case.
We're also disappointed that Titanfall 3 isn't being in this 2025 Game Awards in any shape or form, though we don't mind about other games like SCP: 5K and especially the disastrous CoD: BO7 not being TGA 2025 for the right reasons (at least for BO7). Though we're also bummed about Death Stranding 2 (one of many reference points we use for our Titanfall 3 campaign) loses to Battlefield 6 and Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 in this GOTY nominations though it could be a blessing in disguise on the Expedition 33 part despite the Unreal Slop stigma behind UE5 games like Expedition 33.
So despite this fury on TGA 2025, would this new game from former Titanfall devs be redeemed upon launch (considering we think that it might have unique mechanics that aren't present in other hero shooters) or it will be doomed from the start like Concord? We don't know until the demo goes out on 26 January of the next year.
Windows' exodus and macOS port[]
Ever since Windows 10 has ended its support back in 14 October 2025, forcing some users to upgrade to Windows 11, switch to another OS like Linux, or buy a Mac computer. Well, it looks like Windows 11 have some botched updates like the removal of local accounts and now being a more of bloated mess with some terrible decisions like the Recall debacle that reminded us of Windows 10's data collection spyware situation back in 2016-2018 and also made us worry about future Xbox consoles. Which meant that the best migration from Windows OS are macOS and Linux.
But don't worry, we're developing a port of Titanfall 3 for Apple computers, namely macOS operating systems on Mac computers and MacBook laptops, scheduled for the end of 2025. However, this macOS port has an obvious caveat; it is only available as native Apple Silicon game and thus incompatible with older Intel-based Macs and unlike Death Stranding, we don't have any plans to make Titanfall 3 available on iOS mobile devices despite running on the exact same architecture as modern Mac PCs nor make it compatible with older Intel Macs though we make up for a lack of mobile versions are Nintendo Switch and Switch 2 versions of our game as both of them are handheld consoles.
YouTube's auto-dubbing can go wrong sometimes[]
We seen this text "How this was made" on some videos not tagged with "altered or synthetic content" (where audio and/or visual part of YT videos are AI-generated or altered otherwise on the owner's part) and there are multiple tracks available for one YouTube video. Well, it is an AI-based video dubbing, which currently it has a very obvious quality degradation on non-original audio tracks that aren't manually-dubbed, namely the comb-filtering effect, "fake" stereo that aren't mono-compatible (as to make up for the fact being downmixed to mono) and lowpass filter. A particular thread on HydrogenAudio forums about this YT process has a poll, which currently leans towards the "good idea but poorly executed" option due to the fact auto-dubbing is forced on non-English videos as well as English videos misidentified as foreign language (and thus, forcing this unnecessary auto-dub) and auto-translated descriptions currently can't be switched off into the original (even when forced on you) and vice versa (including English video titles being auto-translated to foreign languages that shows up on search results about terms in foreign language).
Speaking of dubbing and on the unrelated note, we have different audio voices for numerous different languages (including Indonesian language/Bahasa Indonesia that most non-Indonesian games don't have) in our Titanfall 3 game. While most part of dubbing are human made, we used AI but only with permission from voice actors when there manual dubbing become tedious and counter-productive.
Other lessons learned[]
Even if these lessons are unrelated to Titanfall or any first-person shooter games (as long as it is related to gaming industry as a whole and even the entire entertainment industry), we strive to learn lessons from others for good changes from typical AAA slop.
You can check the playlist of what we learned from mistakes from other developers and authors. Not all vids from this playlists are used for learning the lesson, at least directly.
