Titan Fall Fanon Wiki

"There are areas that has been repurposed as corrupt sites or rendered hostile. You need to take out these corrupt areas before it gets worse."
―Mission briefing

Trial-and-Error & Rinse-and-Repeat is an IMC campaign mission in the single-player portion of Titanfall 3 where IMC forces neutralizing multiple hostile and corrupt sites on Solace.

Overview[]

The mission takes place in multiple locations within a planet Solace where both Kuben Blisk and p0358 commands their IMC comrades to neutralize all hostile locations including gulags and repurposing Apex Games arenas like Kings Canyon into terrorist sites throughout the entire planet.

The player can visit and control one of IMC Pilots across multiple locations of interests once the unnamed character(s) the player assumed control is extracted following the neutralization of a terrorist cell and drop into another hostile sites (and other important locations) as another or the same Pilot to neutralize and repeat until it's done (or in other words, the Syndicate corruption are eliminated from the planet and important objectives are completed), hence this mission name.

As the lives are limited (and depletes every time the player dies in a sub-mission), depleting all lives is a mission failure as the IMC wasted all of valuable Pilots to drop in. As the IMC can recruit captured terrorists, the player can optionally utilize less-lethal weapons to either regain lives by having unconscious enemy Pilots extracted by grabbing the unconscious body and send it into repurposed Respawn Beacons for extraction, or either with a Double Agent kit equipped, use a defibrillator to wake up unconscious enemies and make them fight for you, or use a special "surrender" ping to attempt to convince the enemies to fight for your squad.

Locations[]

There are multiple locations to choose from to fight in this mission.

Kings Canyon[]

It is a repurposed Apex Games arena Mercenary Syndicate have converted into a corporate military training facility. It is a desert place with occasional buildings and POIs (including drivable vehicles) within it.

This place symbolizes a sin of greed since the Syndicate used this place to fund themselves in-addition to being used as a training facility.

Trampa en Solitario[]

It was an Apex Games arena that would be set in a city-like map but due to bad timing (ongoing construction in the middle of Frontier Militia incursion of Mercenary Syndicate), the purist subfaction of FMITO terrorist group repurposed this area into a heavily-fortified military base and the gulag for this rogue faction.

This location name is a Spanish translation of "trap solo", which is a nickname given by high casualty of reformed IMC forces attempting to regain control of this arena and even a lonely Pilot and a Titan won't be enough to survive the heavily-armed FMITO purist forces and traps placed by terrorists, hence this location symbolizes the sin of wrath.

Stagnant Base[]

A possibly-abandoned IMC military base, now almost run only by struggling bots and automated defense systems and being in the slow process of being taken over by TALOS, which embodies the sin of sloth. There are hacked systems present within the base that coalition forces have to be aware of and the player can take them back by hacking the systems owned by TALOS.

New Illicit Facility[]

This location is a symbol of gluttony sin as of the result of having drug and arms trafficking facilities present on it, especially at its center. Hornstromp Cartel enemies are also present alongside some innocent civilians that IMC-FMITO coalition forces should avoid killing them no matter what.

The player can try cutting either the supply of or the better (but difficult) yet, the demand for illicit guns and drugs.

Outpost-8399[]

A large IMC military base with a purpose of regulating the FMITO violence within Solace.

However, this IMC base were under attack by remaining FMITO purist terrorists and hostile Mercenary Syndicate forces at some point, allowing the Syndicate to take over and repurpose Apex Games arenas into a corporate military base, and on its present day, it is now being a contested territory as the IMC retaliate against attackers in this military base.

Pop-culture references[]

  • Helldivers 2: The whole objective of a meta-mission is reclaim the Solace from terrorism.
  • MTF Sigma-66 ("Sixteen Tons") from SCP Foundation: The name of the achievement where you gathered up enough captured hostile members on this mission.
  • Six/ten-star escape videos from Mike the Goon channel on YouTube: The rough general reference point for the mission structure for each sub-missions aside the inclusion of mechs and unique gameplay features to each location and Titanfall games in general (including Apex Legends).

Dialogues and voicelines[]

  • Evolved from Prototype 2: Certain dialogues of enemy Pilot encounters are similar-sounding but not exactly the same. Examples are shown below:
    • An Evolved inside the Whitelight Facility: Mercenary Syndicate Pilot says when the player finds the enemy leader on the Kings Canyon: "Back off, Pilot! The Kings Canyon is ours"
    • Dr. Kishino: another Mercenary Syndicate Pilot in the gulag when the player infiltrates the most reinforced part of the gulag: "You just had to get in our way, didn't you, Pilot?"
  • Spartan voiceprints from Halo Infinite multiplayer: Voicelines of armored enemy Grunts, especially ones using repurposed Apex Games arenas for training for becoming a FMITO Pilot.

Trivia[]

  • This mission alongside Standoff, Within the Crossfire, and An Outworldly Dimension are examples of open-ended missions being executed well in Titanfall 3 but not so much in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III with "Open Combat" missions.
  • During development of Titanfall 3 especially the single-player portion, it was planned to have a bunch of armored Grunts that can use Titans as a substitute for actual Pilots on foot like the particular part of this mission but everywhere. However, the Pilot AI were implemented properly so the idea of adding bunch of armored Grunts was scrapped besides this mission (or in other words, limited to one mission).
  • Since the mission partakes on multiple playable characters, once completing the sub-mission, the loadout won't carry over to another sub-mission due to the fact the unnamed playable characters are different for each sub-mission.
  • Other than Outpost-8399, these seven sub-missions represents each different sin for each locations.
  • The mission An Actual Battle Royale on Special Ops mode is basically a co-op version of this Strike Force-esque open-combat meta-mission taking place in all Apex Legends maps.
