"Should constant infighting awaken an iron hand of vengeance, only to strike the Outlands?"
―Motto of the FMITO splinter paramilitary/terrorist group

The Frontier Militia in the Outlands (FMITO) is a splinter group of the original Frontier Militia that fought during first Frontier War, focused around completely liberating the entire Outlands from any powerful influences like Mercenary Syndicate and the IMC. It is one of playable factions in Titanfall 3 single-player campaign.

Despite its name, the Frontier Militia in the Outlands doesn't actually originate from the Outlands, instead they come from the Frontier, hence its name being a misnomer.

History[]

It is unknown why the Frontier Militia are split up into two separate factions of the exact same name; one on the Frontier, and another in the Outlands, with different motives though this is expected for such a disorganized group, and not much of it are known before the events of Titanfall 3 (and post-Apex Legends lore).

On 26 June 2741, FMITO staged an incursion of the Outlands for the purpose of "liberating" the Outlands from the Mercenary Syndicate and other external influences. However in 13 March 2742, their efforts inadvertently sparked Frontier War II with the IMC and the Syndicate.

During the mission Switching Sides on 26 January 2745, the overarching FMITO ordered a ceasefire agreement to the IMC to fight the greater enemy, which are Mercenary Syndicate, with most FMITO subfactions gradually abandoning the complete liberation from both opposing forces as a motive in favor of a compromise within the Outlands after the successful truce with the reformed IMC and their realization of the "new" IMC being critical in bringing order, stability and governance to the Outlands. This truce with reformed IMC members formed the IMC-FMITO coalition, which fought the Syndicate itself as well as corrupt IMC/Militia forces working for the Syndicate.

Sub-factions[]

As a disorganized group much like main Frontier Militia, the FMITO has several subfactions, which are divided into these categories below.

Opportunists[]

As the name suggests, the opportunist are groups of FMITO subfactions who fight either the IMC and/or especially Mercenary Syndicate through opportunistic ways including but not limited to banditry, and thus are also called as "foreign bandits". These diverge significantly from the FMITO's original motivation and they behave superficially similar to local militias but they're fundamentally different (beyond the fact these FMITO subfactions of this category and other groups are foreigners); these weaker FMITO groups fight for self-interests, profits, material possession and gains from both IMC/Syndicate, and power within Outlands unlike local militias where they fight for survival, self-defense and/or vigilante during the Frontier War II, though both factions are hostile to Mercenary Syndicate and they fight eachother quite often for these groups of FMITO subfactions.

Purists[]

Also known as literal "terrorists from the Frontier", a group of FMITO subfactions where they fight both the IMC and the Syndicate as they believe both of them are external influences in the Outlands to liberate from. These group appears the most in IMC campaigns as enemies, and mostly neutral (but sometimes even hostile in few missions) to the player and Militia friendlies on Militia campaigns.

However after the formation of IMC-FMITO coalition, these group of FMITO subfactions gradually abandons their extremist ideology in favor of more pragmatic fight of the Syndicate with the IMC and other FMITO subfactions, albeit the slowest and most reluctant amongst FMITO subfaction categories.

Pragmatists[]

These groups of FMITO subfactions (also known as external military invaders in the Outlands and a military wing of a terrorist organization) are hostile to Mercenary Syndicate but often leaves IMC alone as they believe that the presence of IMC promotes stability and governance in the Outlands. These subfactions are playable in Militia campaigns, with p0358 partly being a one of them until rejoined the IMC as well as Jack Cooper being a one of them and it is a subfaction group responsible for establishing a truce with IMC that led to formation of IMC-FMITO coalition.

While this subfaction category diverges from the original FMITO mission to completely liberate the Outlands from any external influences (though not nearly as much as the opportunist category of FMITO subfactions), they're neutral and sometimes even friendly in IMC campaigns as they're fighting the common enemy in the Outlands to liberate from the influences of the Syndicate. However, these are sometimes hostile to FMITO purist subfactions due to interfering with pragmatist's mission, especially on IMC-occupied territories.

Corrupt sub-factions[]

Some factions of FMITO are affiliated with and corrupt by Mercenary Syndicate (which is the force that FMITO wanted to neutralize in the first place) and other influences like in case of Psamathe, Hornstromp Cartel. These instances of corrupt FMITO forces are occasionally encountered in some Militia campaign missions as well as few IMC missions. Unlike all other subfaction categories, these subfactions aren't the part the IMC-FMITO coalition and instead it is being targeted by other FMITO subfactions and the IMC and it is neutral, or even in some cases, friendly to Mercenary Syndicate and other corrupting influences.

Known members[]

  • Jack Cooper
  • p0358 (partly, temporary until rejoined the reformed IMC)
  • Unnamed arbiter Grunt (player-determined fate; either join the FMITO or both the IMC and FMITO at the same time, or remain unaffiliated depending on what they did to Suotamo city on planet Gaea during As Below, So Above mission)
